Brent crude is the primary global benchmark used as the reference for the majority of internationally traded oil — including Nigerian grades. WTI (West Texas Intermediate) is the US benchmark and typically trades at a small discount to Brent. For Nigerian operators, Brent is the relevant benchmark for evaluating revenue projections and fiscal break-even analysis.
Bonny Light is Nigeria's highest-profile crude export — a sweet, low-sulphur grade that commands a premium close to Brent. It is produced primarily in the Niger Delta and transported via the Trans Niger Pipeline to the Bonny terminal for export. Its premium to Brent reflects high refinery yield of valuable light products.
